"Il mondo o niente" è un tentativo di raccontare uno dei tanti Sud Italia, un sud isolato ed allo stesso tempo iperconnesso, un sud fatto non soltanto di veli neri, processioni, terre d'argilla e villaggi arroccati su colline spoglie, un sud che non è soltanto quel "mondo di sotto" raccontato da Carlo Levi.
After completing a degree in film studies in Rome university Chiara Caterina, born in southern Italy in 1983, awarded a diploma in cinematography and is currently enrolled at Le Fresnoy- Studio national des arts contemporains in Lille. Her short film Avant la nuit was awarded with the first prize at the Festival Cinema Zero 2013 in Trento (Italy), with the first prize in the experimental section of A corto di donne Festival in Naples (Italy) and selected among others at the 27 European Media Art Festival in Osnabrueck, at the 30th Hamburg International Short Film Festival,at the 10th Berwick Film and Media art Festival and at the Videoformes 2015 International Festival in Clermont-Ferrand. Her video practice undertakes a reflection on the language of non fiction film, on the borders often blurred and slippery between staging and reality and on the role of the author in this subtle process. Her main interest is how we define “truth” in nonfiction cinema, how it becomes meaningful to shift the ethnographic focus from the phenomena themselves to the practices of interaction between observer and observed.
