[Ischia, 14 June 2016] The most important price of the Festival, in the past editions assigned to Vittorio Storaro, Abel Ferrara, Pavel Lounguine, Pupi Avati, Jean Sorel, Amos Gitai e Pasquale Squitieri, celebrates this year German director that started out with Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Volker Schlöndorff to arrive to recent masterpieces like “Hannah Arendt” in a profound and sensitive story about her era.
“Hanna Arendt” will be screened in her honor on 26 June at 21:45 at Assunta Cathedral according to the program conceived and directed by Michelangelo Messina.
Margarethe von Trotta, strict lady and at the same time irreverent of a cinema deeply German and European that will never submit at the mediocrity's banality, conformism of ideologies and opportunism, difficulties of challenges. Everyone, thinking of her, mention "Die Bleierne Zeit" that won Leone d’Oro at the Festival of Venezia and international fame, but we should thank her to (re)build our critic consciousness with a cinema elegant as an equation and free like only strictness could be.
Margarethe von Trotta isn't scared from the past, for how much could be hard to accept (like Arendt), nor from the present, with whom she face up here and now. Always without aging her works. On the contrary her cinema looks younger, anticipator of crumbling walls that begin to be rebuilt, in her serious movies always about love: love for truth, for justice, for people, for women, for life, for cinema. For who is wrong, beacause will be right. But Margarethe (almost) never let us have an happy ending, she loves telling how much is hard stay in the right way when everybody is in the other. This is cinema, this is her.
Margarethe von Trotta will be in the international jury at the Ischia Film Festival fourteenth edition, that will take place from 25 June to 2 July at Aragonese Castle in Ischia.
