The Ischia Film Festival announces the titles of the ‘Special Screenings’ section, defined, even this year by significant works, capable of marking recent and past history of the seventh art (films card can be consulted here). During the kermesse – taking place from the 2nd until the 9th of July around the scenarios of the Castello Aragonese – some of the most important Italian and international movie makers, who made locations a distinguishing feature of their films, will be honoured: among these, of course, the Great Mario Monicelli. The Emilian (Roman by adoption) director passed away in 2010; he always had a special relationship with Ischia Film Festival ,that remembers him through his screening “La Grande Guerra”. This unforgettable movie will be introduced by one f his close colleague, the set designer Lorenzo Baraldi, with whom he had an 11 movies fellowship.

The festival devotes an entire retrospective to the gifted Woody Allen, to whom will be given the Foreign Award. The New-yorker director and his long career will be protagonists of the kermese nights through the screening of cult movies as “Manhattan, Matchpoint  and Vicky Cristina Barcellona”, all three deeply marked by the cities in which they were shot. This is also a special year for the festival honorary President, Sir Ken Adam, the great set designer, turning 90years old, two times Academy award winner and close partner of Stanley Kubrik. In order to celebrate his presence at the show, it will be screened the legendary “Il dottor Stranamore”.

Another protagonist of the section is Terry Gilliam: the director, a visionary and surrealist par excellence, will introduce his last short “The Wholly Family”, with the performance of the Italian actress Cristiana Capotondi. The show will honour Pupi Avati, hero of  the contemporary cinema, with the Corallo ciak 2011 ,for “Il Papà di Giovanna” and the documentary, Pupi Avati, a poet discordant voice. Other special screenings during the nights will be: “La lunga calza verde” (to celebrate 150 years of the Italian unification) “Le cinéaste est un athléte” (tribute to Vittorio De Seta) and “Pellegrino vestito di bianco (tribute to Giovanni Paolo II).
